Dick was born in Geneva, Illinois, into a strong Christian family and from early age attended Wheaton Bible Church, an independent community of believers.Christian schools from nursery on through high school encouraged growth in bible knowledge, prayer, and service.Dick graduated from Trinity College (IL) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.During Dick’s graduate school years in New Haven, CT, Dick served as assistant pastor in a small Evangelical Free Church and is licensed for ministry through that denomination.Dick also served in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship where he met Huaiching, his wife of nearly 30 years.Since 1992 Dick has been teaching full-time with Bethel Seminary of the East (eastern branch of Bethel University, St. Paul, MN).Dick and Huaiching have three children from ages 8 to 24.The family enjoys reading, canoeing, camping, and traveling, especially to visit family and old friends scattered across the globe.
