Tim Bentch, Local Outreach Coordinator

Over the past 20 years, Tim has divided his time between two passions - opera and mission.  After finishing his graduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he felt God leading him to stop singing and enter full-time ministry.  He soon found himself pastoring an inner city church plant in Richmond, Virginia, where he was ordained as a minister in evangelism.  After two and half years of intense ministry, resulting in the planting of a new church, Tim sensed the Lord leading him to start singing again.  He moved to Baltimore, where he directed a short-term missions training center for "Youth Evangelism Service" for three years and began singing professionally.   During that time, God gave him a vision to minister in and through the fine arts in the former communist countries of Eastern Europe.

In 1994 Tim moved to Hungary (with his wife Lorri) to develop a ministry combining opera and evangelism.  For the next twelve years, he performed extensively in Europe as a soloist in opera and oratorio, using performing as an inroad to build relationships with other professional artists.  This resulted in artists’ fellowships, prayer groups, ministry through festivals, exhibitions, seminars, and an institute of arts for students.  During the last five years in Hungary, he was on the leadership team for a new church plant, which today is the Church on the Rock, a thriving congregation near Budapest.

Tim and Lorri left Hungary in 2006 and have been attending Westerly for a year.  Lorri works as a campus minister with Christian Union at Princeton University.  They have three daughters: Eszter, Evelyn, and Emma.
